Balcones Canyonlands Preserve Tour: 1pm-5pm

Reicher Ranch Join us for a visit to the 10-year-old Balcones Canyonlands Preserve in the scenic Texas “Hill Country” west of Austin. Learn how a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service 10(a) permit has successfully brought together multiple governmental and non-governmental agencies to steward nearly 30,000 acres with the mission to protect two endangered bird species, six endangered karst invertebrates and 27 species of concern. Discover how habitat is being managed to benefit the Golden-cheeked Warbler and see active habitat restoration activities that benefit the Blackcapped Vireo and other native birds. Learn about the native flora and fauna of these upland plateaus and carved canyons and about the challenges to managing an endangered species preserve surrounded by this rapidly growing suburban area.

Golden-cheeked warbler Guided by Travis County biologists, visitors will be led on a relaxing driving and walking tour of the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve. The tour will begin at The Crossings where visitors will board buses to travel through the Travis County-owned parts of the Preserve. Visit www.co.travis.tx.us/TNR/BCLP/BC_Preserve.asp to learn more about the site.
