The
Council for Environmental Education and Flying
WILD invite you to join us in Austin, Texas for a national
meeting of professionals involved in efforts to educate students
and the public about birds and their conservation needs. Bird
Conservation through Education: A National Gathering for Bird
Education will bring together leaders from national and
regional education programs, wildlife agencies, state education
boards, foundations, non-profit organizations, school districts,
zoos/aquariums, nature centers, city park departments and
bird-related businesses. The meeting will provide a forum
for discussion, network building, and planning to further
the reach of bird education efforts in North America and beyond.
The
meeting will be held at The
Crossings, a forested retreat center known for its ecologically
sound and aesthetically appealing design, chef-prepared meals,
and proximity to natural areas such as the Balcones
Canyonlands Preserve.
The
goals of the conference are to:
- Initiate
the development of a national bird education network
- Highlight
the most critical messages to be communicated through bird
education efforts
- Examine
outreach to diverse audiences as a priority goal within
bird education and share successful methods for involving
diverse audiences in bird education
- Share
success stories in bird education through case studies and
interactive discussions

Bird
Conservation Through Education: A National Gathering will
be held at The
Crossings, a beautiful retreat center located 20 miles
northwest of downtown Austin, Texas. The Crossings overlooks
Lake Travis and is adjacent to the Balcones
Canyonlands Preserve, a refuge providing habitat for
two endangered songbird species, the Golden-cheeked Warbler
and the Black-capped Vireo. (Please note: these species
are not due to return to the Austin area until March.)
Guided
by green building principles, The Crossings minimizes
impact on the natural environment while maximizing human
health and well-being. Lodging
options are well-appointed. Meals
served in the Cypress
Creek Dining Hall feature healthy and delicious cuisine
prepared with fresh, local ingredients.
For
reservations and to receive the conference special rate
for lodging and meals, call (877) 944-3003 and advise that
you are attending the Bird Education Conference hosted by
the Council for Environmental Education. Space is limited
and rooms are available on a first come-first served basis,
so reserve early to ensure availability.
In the event
that registration for the conference exceeds our allotted
room block, you may make accommodations at another Austin
area hotel. The closest lodging options (large chain)
